Olympic Ferro

Pedigree and Foal Report

Ancestry

Sire Ulft is an unusually versatile stallion that has not only displayed enormous
jumping ability but has also given impressive dressage performances. He was the
first stallion since the introduction of the performance test to be given a 9 for dressage.
Sire of Ulft, "keur" Le Mexico, is a typical jumper progenitor, with a high jumping index.
His sire Mexico is a full brother to the famous Furioso II, a much celebrated progenitor
in France. Their sire is Furioso xx, who was approved in various other studbooks. Ferro's
dam is mainly of German discent, Brenda (ster pref prest) is by the Holsteiner "keur" Farn, who also has ranked highly in the jumping index. Farn has become best known through his son Nimmerdor, who claims a very high index in jumping and has also produced many stallions.

Performance

At the national stallion inspection Ferro was the prompt favorite of the public, justifiably so, for at his performance test in 1990, he more than lived up to the great expectations generated by his lineage. With a series of brillant marks, three 9's and five 8.5's, he was Champion of his year. And at 4 years old, he became Reserve Champion of his first National Stallion Jumping competition. As a 5 year old he was third and as a 6 year old he placed first in the stallion competitions. In 1996 he started international competition with Coby Van Baalen at Prix St George. He started five times and placed first 3 out of the 5 times.
And as they say the rest is history......

Foal Report

In his first full season at stud in 1991, Ferro already covered about 250 mares with very
high fertility rates. Ferro's first offspring typically possess the same dominate features as
their sire: they show a well-developed conformation, a great deal of blood and very typey
magnificent movements. They are often black. His progeny, shown to the jury in 1992, presented a very similar picture. The most remarkable feature was the alert look and the full development of Ferro's foals, who have long, well-muscled and pleasantly shaped croups and backs. They show a lot of room in the trot with good use of the hind legs and fine elevation. He also produced Lynn who was second place at the famous Young Horse Championships at Lanaken in 1998, and several Champion fillies including UTV Mare and Reserve. In addition to this he has already produced 6 approved sons: Kennedy, Metall, Negro, Osmium, Pyriet and Paddox. At the KWPN Paardendagen in August, 2000, the Champion 3yr old mare was a Farrington x Ferro. In the USA he has produced many Top Ten's including Rhythm and Blues -- #1 in the nation, Terro S.E., Sapphirine, Raquel and Opportune. He received his Keur rating in January, 2000
